چکیده

Monitoring Oobius agrili Zhang and Huang (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae), an egg parasitoid being released for biological control of emerald ash borer (EAB), Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire (Coleoptera: Buprestidae), is challenging due to its small size the cryptic placement host eggs. We compared four O. recovery methods: 1) rearing adults from bark (bark rearing); 2) sifting parasitized eggs sifting); 3) placing sentinel EAB in screened envelopes on trees (sentinel eggs); and, 4) yellow pan traps capture adult parasitoids. In 2016, we sampled 40 within 0.25-ha-plots at each 4 sites Michigan with method. 2017 2018, methods were applied 10 3 sites. Sentinel not included 2018. Yellow recovered all years, had higher percentages agrili-positive trees, required fewer > 95% probability When sampling only fresh woodpecker-feeding holes, a sign recent attack, increased substantially rearing, slightly traps, but decreased trees. Peak using occurred between 400 1200 growing degree days (base °C, January 1 start date), revealing when most active. The type information these parasitoid-recovery provides their relative efficiencies are discussed.

Development of methods for the field evaluation of Oobius agrili (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) in North America, a newly introduced egg parasitoid of the emerald ash borer (Coleoptera: Buprestidae)

A field study was conducted in forested plots near Lansing, Michigan in 2008 and 2009 to evaluate the newly introduced egg parasitoid Oobius agrili Zhang and Huang (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) for control of the invasive emerald ash borer (EAB), Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire (Coleoptera: Buprestidae). To measure parasitism by O. agrili, laboratory-reared ‘‘sentinel EAB eggs’’ were deployed under b...

Biology and Behavior of Spathius agrili, a Parasitoid of the Emerald Ash Borer, Agrilus planipennis, in China

Spathius agrili Yang (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) is a gregarious larval ectoparasitoid of the emerald ash borer, Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) and is a recently described species. Both pest and parasitoid are native to China. In Tianjin City, China, S. agrili typically exhibited 3-4 generations per year, overwintering as a prepupa in a cocoon inside the host gallery. The...
